Montana Bow Season Has Arrived!

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

The 2010 Bow Season has officially begun in Montana, and Labor Day Weekend found the SDO crew hunting elk in the Rockies with our friends at Broken Heart Outfitters. The hiking was intense with the terrain being steep and deep, in fact, the lactic acid is still working its way out of our legs. Even though the rut has not quite started here the guys at Broken Heart were still able to get us into some elk. Round one went to the elk on this trip, but we are looking forward to heading back to the mountains to work with Broken Heart again in two weeks. By then the rut should be in full swing and we will be in for a wild ride. Meanwhile, the next two weeks are full of activity as the SDO crew will be hunting antelope eastern Montana and Wyoming as well as participating in a youth event for Ducks Unlimited in Helena Montana. After that its back to the hills to go after elk with the guys at Broken Heart Outfitters. All this and the season is just getting started…Good Hunting!

2010 Hunting Season Count Down

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

It is late July which means the count down for hunting in has officially started. Special draw tags have begun to be released and once again the crew at Silent Draw have found some luck participating in various lottery systems across the country. Stay tuned as we keep you posted on where the SDO crew will be this season as we already have special draw tags in Utah, Wyoming, and most recently antelope and cow elk tags in Montana. Not to mention exciting hunts already planned with partners such as Broken Heart Outfitters going after some of the biggest bulls in Western Montana. It is going to be a very exciting year and we look forward to taking you along for the ride.

Massive Antelope Harvested in Oregon

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

It is no secret that all of us at Silent Draw Outdoors love telling our hunting stories and sharing with others all of the gritty details of the pain staking work that was put into achieving a successful hunt. This past year we have also had the privilege of hearing several stories from those of you who have watched our show or spent time with us in the field. We certainly love hearing of your experiences, but every once in a while we are provided with a hunting story that is documented so well that we have to tell you about it. The hunter in question is Kurt Landwehr and his story of hard work and perseverance is exactly what we like to promote here at SDO. I would strongly recommend that you take a minute to check his story out at: http://www.kurtlandwehr.com/2009/12/test-post-3.html . Kurt, thank you very much for keeping us in the loop with your hunting adventures and for being a fan of our show; your trophy antelope will definitely be in the Oregon record books for quite some time.

Sure You’re Ready for Hunting?

Monday, August 24th, 2009

You may have your tags, you’ve probably already checked out your hunting gear twice by now, and you have definitely been shooting at the range or at targets in your back yard.  So you think you are ready for hunting this fall?

Think again.  Like most hunters, myself included, there are two vital pieces of equipment that get overlooked almost every year … your legs and your lungs.  How many times have you said to yourself  “man my legs are burning!” or “I can’t catch my breath” while working to get into the back country? And then there’s my personal favorite, which is usually said to one’s self way back in the woods, “What am I going to do if I actually shoot something in here?”
